Strata Obscura
2017 - 2023
In Strata Obscura, the immersive and illusory narratives echo the earlier series L'apparition (2014), which explored dimensionally fluid and malleable visual contexts. The primary concerns of these works include the effects of color as light and shadow as formal structures, engaging viewers with a dualistic aesthetic. Beneath the dichroic surface, an unexposed topographical element composed of industrial aluminum responds to colour changes and visual variations. This stratum-like structure becomes obscured as it interacts with form, light, and setting, dematerialising depending on the viewer's perception and viewpoint.
The creation process is non-specific yet follows distinctive practices, allowing each work to be open to interpretation. The manipulation of materials like mirror and aluminum foil encourages the visual narrative to metamorphose into diverse states and modalities. The installations continuously interact with their environment, altering their elemental parameters. Each new empirical interaction offers a distinct topographical representation, providing the viewer with a unique visual experience.
