Moment Between Thoughts
2016
Fine gossamer gauze shaped into three-dimensional topographies, interwoven with charcoal-laced motifs, decorates a framed void. These motifs, reminiscent of whirling dervishes, evoke movement, balancing and dancing within the space. Departing from the rigid components of previous series, Moment Between Thoughts explores dimensional potentiality through three-dimensional representation.
Inspired by ancient papermaking traditions from the Eastern Han Dynasty (105 AD), using fishnet, bark, and cloth, this series emphasizes sensibility and craftsmanship. The artist's hand is evident, and the works, though not monumental, effectively capture the ethereal. The compositional arrangements are provisional rather than permanent, questioning the relationship between sculptural fragmentation and the categorization of painting and drawing.
The topographical, three-dimensional characteristics of the works create a poetic encounter with the viewer, inviting them to define the visual narrative and pause for a moment between thoughts.
