Molecular

2015

In this series Molecular, an arrangement of individually framed works composed of painted foam in multi-colored variations explores the dimensional potential of objects. The surface-textured Plexiglas creates an architectural facade, obstructing the viewer's perception of the layers beneath and inviting interaction. This obstruction creates immediate tension, prompting viewers to question behavior, perception, and logic.

Viewer movement brings the hidden context to life, allowing an independent narrative to emerge. While each piece shares a similar visual reference within the grid-like formation, subtle differences and distortions become apparent, resembling representational patterns in a petri dish that blur upon closer inspection. Attributes like form, color, and pigment density become intangible.

By re-representing mass-produced materials as identifiable modular objects, the series encourages exploration of how pre-conceived notions are embedded in our psyche and influence our awareness of objects.
